Family & Caregivers

Family and Caregivers

Family members are an important part of treatment for youth. We offer a range of supportive services to family members who are concerned about a child they are raising. Services include helping parents learn skills to effectively manage ADHD, other behavior problems, and developmental disabilities in the home. We also offer therapy for parent-child communication problems or for families who would like a stronger relationship with their teenager. Lastly, we often provide short-term and longer-term therapy for families who have experienced a difficult event associated with grief and loss, or situations such as divorce or remarriage, to assist the family as a unit through the transition and/or adjustment phase.

Group Therapy

Group TherapyGroups are unique experiences that allow for multiple children with common challenges to meet together with trained therapists. Groups allow for a shared and supportive experience with others, while also developing skills and learning new ways to cope.  They typically meet for 90 minutes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Recent groups for youth include:

  • Social Skills and Friendship Groups for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for teens wanting to increase healthy ways to control emotions and learn how to cope with distressing situations
  • Parent support groups for caregivers of children with Asperger’s/Autism Spectrum Disorders

Assessments

AssessmentsAssessment is commonly a part of therapeutic services to determine needs or monitor progress.  However, youth may need more formal evaluations to help diagnose emotional, behavioral, developmental or learning needs.  Our clinic utilizes assessment measures, tests, and interviews that are developed and supported by research. Evaluations take place across one or more appointments that are 1-3 hours in length each.
