Congrats, Fall 2016 Grads! (What Next?)

Posted on December 15, 2016 by Paul Silvia

It’s hard to believe that Fall 2016 is over. Today is commencement, and that means that some congrats are called for!

To our December graduates, we in Psychology wish you well. You might be graduating a semester early, or perhaps, shall we say, a semester not that early, but you’re graduating at the time it was meant to happen. We hope that your time as a PSY major had made you not only full of facts but also full of ideas, not only more knowledgeable but also more wise.

So what’s next now that you’re one of our PSY alumni instead of one of our PSY majors? We’re still your professors for a few more hours, so here are a few suggestions:

Keep in touch. You’re officially a member of the UNCG Alumni Association, a large and valiant group of Spartans. Membership in the Alumni Association is free for life, and you should connect and get involved with them.

And to keep in touch with us in PSY, connect with us on Facebook, which is where we post most of the news, events, happenings, and miscellaneous mental meanderings.

Drop by. We’ll be inviting you to on-campus events, from our patch at UNCG’s Homecoming to annual PSY events, like the annual Kendon Smith Lecture Series and other alumni events large and small. Keep an eye on your e-mail for the details and drop by.

Update your digits. And speaking of e-mail, when you change your mailing or e-mail addresses, please remember to update your digits with the UNCG Alumni Association. When the PSY Department sends e-newsletters, e-mail invitations, and postcards, we use their address database.

Read to your brain. The science of psychology moves quickly, and the best way to keep up is to read books. We’ll be sending suggestions in our e-newsletter and on Facebook. (If your brain and stomach are hungry over the holidays, you might read First Bite: How We Learn to Eat by Bee Wilson.)

Congrats again! Keep us posted about what you’re up to and what path you are taking from the Eberhart Building.

“Humans Behaving” is an informal blog run by the UNCG Department of Psychology devoted to matters large and small, from humble happenings to departmental history to our students’ many stories and successes.
