Applying to the Doctoral (PhD) and Terminal Masters (MA) programs

Applications must be submitted and complete by the deadline to be considered.
Psychology Ph.D. and MA-Ph.D. programs (in Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, or Social Psychology) deadline is December 1.
Terminal MA program in General Experimental Psychology: There are TWO deadlines: (1) Dec. 1 (2) April 1. Students who apply by Dec. 1 will usually hear about their application by April 15. All applicants will receive notice by May 15.
To apply to our graduate programs, you must submit the following:
- A UNCG Graduate School application, with supporting materials specific to the Psychology Department (see below). In addition, you will need to submit the following:
- Official copy of your GRE SCORES*
- One (1) copy of official transcripts from colleges/universities
- Three letters of recommendation
- A North Carolina residency form, if applicable
- A $65.00 application fee is required
*GRE REQUIREMENT UPDATES in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic (posted 9/2021):
The Clinical Program is not requiring GRE scores as part of the admissions process this year. As such, GRE scores will not be considered as part of our admissions decisions rubric.
Experimental Program (Cognitive, Developmental, and Social Psychology MA/PhD programs and Terminal MA program in General Experimental psychology):
Submission of GRE scores is optional, We recommend that applicants consult with their UNCG faculty advisor(s) of interest to further discuss their best application strategy.

For your convenience, a request-for-transcripts form, a recommendation form, and a McNair fee waiver form are also included on this Graduate School forms page. While we prefer to receive online applications, those applicants who need to submit an application on paper will also find a paper application request form.
The UNCG Testing Code is 5913; use this code to have standardized test scores sent directly to UNCG.
How to Apply:
In addition to indicating the graduate program to which you are applying, the application process will ask you to: (a) specify and rank the faculty advisors who you would most like to conduct your research with; (b) write a short Diversity/Inclusion statement (which asks how you could contribute to and/or benefit from the diversity and inclusive environment of our graduate program), and; (c) write a Professional Statement about your research interests and experiences and your career goals; (d) upload a copy of your academic transcript(s) and arrange to have an official copy of each sent to the UNCG Graduate School; (e) provide a list of recommendation-letter writers (with their contact information), in “Recommendations.”
