Dr. Susan Keane (Primary Investigator) was awarded continuation funding ($306,416) for Year 2 from the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) for the Graduate Psychology Education (GPE) Program grant on Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care.
The project title is “Behavioral Health/Primary Care Integration: Reducing Barriers to Care in Underserved Populations” and it prepares doctoral students for careers as behavioral health specialists in primary care settings.
Eight students will receive $25,000 stipends to obtain inter-professional training and provide integrated care services at the following sites in academic year 2017-18: Cone Family Medicine (2), Cone Pediatrics, Cone Center for Children’s Health, Piedmont Pediatrics, Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) of the Triad, Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine (TAP-M), and the Durham VA. Drs. Rosemery Nelson-Gray, Gabriela Stein and Blair Wisco are Co-Investigators on this project.
A recent outcome of the project is a forthcoming poster entitled “Enhancing Culturally Competent Care for Latino Youth in a Primary Care Setting”, accepted for presentation at the Sept 13, 2017 HRSA Virtual Conference and co-authored by Andrea L. Kulish, Alexandra Cupito, Gabriela L. Stein, and Susan Keane. The presentation emerged out of work done in the 2016-17 academic year, when graduate students Ande Kulish and Ali Cupito were funded GPE trainees.
