Graduate students are essential to the research enterprise and valued members of any department with a graduate program. The goal of the “meet the graduate students” series is to learn more about the experiences of these key players in the Department of Psychology at UNCG.
Let’s meet one of our (at the time of this article) second year students, Adrienne Brumemett. Adrienne began at UNCG in the Fall 25 semester. She works with Dr. Brittany Cassidy and is enrolled in the experimental area Ph.D. program. Adrienne earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Path to and Experiences in Graduate School
What inspired you to begin graduate studies? Can you describe your research area and interests?
I wanted to research and understand the stigma of different stigmatized groups (such as those with health conditions), to hopefully create better outcomes for them, and teach students!
What is something you’ve accomplished at UNCG of which you’re especially proud?
The thing I am the proudest of accomplishing at UNCG so far would be traveling to Chicago last year to present on my study about characterizing the stigma of common chronic physical conditions at the Society for Personality and Social Psychology Annual Convention.
What advice would you give to students aspiring to attend graduate school?
Talk to your professors or current graduate students to learn more about specific programs and to get general advice about different fields! Also, get involved in research!

What do you like to do outside of school?
I love spending time with my dog, Grayson, exploring different trails and testing out new recipes in the kitchen.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I am the middle child of five children!

I would highly recommend watching Ted Lasso!
