From Beliefs to Shared Truths: Leveraging Research for Informed Understanding

The Psychology Department at UNC Greensboro is pleased to invite you to attend a public lecture series entitled “From Beliefs to Shared Truths: Leveraging Research for Informed Understanding,” organized by Dr. Chris Wahlheim (UNC Greensboro), Dr. Andrew Engelhardt (Stony Brook), and Dr. Bob Wiley (UNC Greensboro). This event will feature the following four presentations on how people respond to misinformation, and corrections of misinformation, from psychological, political, and communication perspectives:
- Dr. Ethan Porter (George Washington University) will present “The Meaning of Misinformation”
- Dr. Lisa Fazio (Vanderbilt University) will present “Understanding the Effects of Repetition on Belief”
- Dr. Chris Wahlheim (UNC Greensboro) will present “The Role of Memory in Correcting False Beliefs”
- Dr. Emily Vraga (University of Minnesota) will present “How We Can All Respond to Misinformation on Social Media”
The series will conclude with a discussion panel with some of the speakers. It will take place on Thursday, 4/24 from 1:30-4:30pm, and Friday, 4/25 from 9:00am-12:15pm. All talks will take place in the Alexander Room in the Elliott University Center (UNCG).
The event is free and open to the public.
