New research from UNCG researchers, including Dr. Kari Eddington, and others suggests that using culturally adapted interventions can improve depression and anxiety symptoms. Recently published in The Lancet, this work adds to growing evidence that interventions that address people’s cultures and languages and that are delivered by community health workers provide a way to reduce mental health symptoms. This research reflects efforts from a five-year project completed across two sites (UNCG and Massachusetts General Hospital). This research is part of the Strong Minds-Strong Communities program, which has the goal of giving adults in North Carolina simple tools to improve their well-being. The Strong Minds-Strong Communities program is still going strong at UNCG thanks to continued support from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Congratulations to the authors on this great work!
