The UNCG Psychology Clinic is a training clinic where graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology provide services under the supervision of licensed psychologists and health service providers in North Carolina. At this time, all supervisors at our clinic are also faculty members in the Psychology department. To ensure the highest quality of care, supervision includes digital recording of sessions and close monitoring of services.
We provide therapy and assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults in the Greensboro and surrounding areas of the Piedmont Triad in North Carolina. While we accept clients who are affiliated with UNCG, we proudly serve our broader community, as well!
Our clinic specializes in comprehensive psychological evaluations and time-limited, evidence-based treatment, with most therapy cases concluding within 16 sessions or fewer.
our approach to clinical care
The UNCG Psychology Clinic strives to provide the highest quality psychological services to the individuals we serve. To accomplish this goal, clinicians consult the relevant peer-reviewed literature and employ evidence-based treatment models.
Our clinicians are trained in a variety of treatment models including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), parent management training, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed treatments. UNCG Psychology clinicians approach their work through a multicultural orientation. Our team is deeply committed to honoring diversity and fostering cultural competence and humility. We welcome clients and families of all identities, including sexual and gender identities.
UNCG Psychology Clinic clinicians work collaboratively with their clients to better understand the nature of the issues that bring them in for therapy or assessment. Some commonly experienced concerns include worry or anxiety, adjustment problems, interpersonal difficulties and conflicts, relationship and couple problems, depression, grief, traumatic experiences and PTSD, issues related to parenting, conduct and behavioral issues with children, academic and learning concerns, and ADHD.
With an understanding of the problems that bring clients to the therapy or the assessment room, clinicians work collaboratively with their clients to identify and set specific therapy or assessment goals. In the context of a safe, caring, and trusting relationship, the therapeutic work or assessment commences.
Each of our clinicians (therapists and assessors) is an esteemed graduate student pursuing their Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. They provide services under the close supervision of licensed psychologists and health service providers in North Carolina. We have approximately 20 clinicians who work at the clinic, part-time, in addition to engaging in coursework, research, and may be providing clinical services at other local partnering agencies. A small number of our clinicians who have already completed their masters’ degree requirements are also licensed as psychological associates in NC and credentialed with Medicaid. As described above, all our clinicians are trained to provide clinical care to all ages from children through older adults, though they have opportunities to specialize in working with specific populations or presenting concerns as they advance in the program. Clinic staff and supervisors work intentionally to match clients to clinicians and supervisor teams who are best-suited to meet their needs.
