Dr. Jasmine DeJesus, who directs the Development, Culture, and Health Lab, recently published an article in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology looking at how children think about people who carry diseases. With department graduate program alum co-authors Dr. Shruthi Venkatesh and Cherish Elmore-Li, Dr. DeJesus expanded the literature by detailing how children ages 5-12 think about the severity and potential of disease transmission as well as the morality of transmitting disease. Their findings suggest that children are thinking about illness severity and the negative consequences of interacting with people who have diseases by age 5.
