Dr. George F. Michel is the 2017 recipient of the Carolyn Rovee-Collier Mentor Award from the International Society for Developmental Psychobiology. The award recognizes ISDP members “who have made significant and sustained contributions to the mentorship of young scholars” and it honors the memory of Dr. Carolyn Rovee-Collier, a developmental scientist who mentored generations of early career scientists and students in the field.
Dr. Michel’s accomplishments as a mentor include the supervision of 23 Master’s theses and 19 Doctoral Dissertations. The majority of his 73 peer-reviewed research publications and 32 peer-reviewed published abstracts are co-authored with post-doctoral students, graduate students, and/or undergraduate students. A substantial number of these contributions have trainees as first authors under Dr. Michel’s mentorship. He has also co-authored numerous conference presentations and chapters with his trainees over the years.
Recent graduates of Dr. Michel’s lab include Dr. Julie Campbell and Dr. Emily Marcinowski.
In addition to the nominating letter from Julie Campbell, 15 former undergraduate and graduate students from UNCG wrote letters supporting George Michel’s nomination for this award.
