We are delighted to announce that Dr. Chris Wahlheim has joined the department!
Dr. Wahlheim is an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology and the Director of the Memory and Cognition Lab at UNCG. He completed his PhD and postdoctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis, where his work was most recently supported by a training grant from the National Institute on Aging. His primary areas of research are in memory, cognitive aging, and metacognition.
Current projects in Chris’s lab are aimed at identifying the mechanisms that underlie age-related deficits in memory for prior episodes. The projects emphasize understanding how younger and older adults differ in the precision of their memory in situations where competing memories interfere with each other. The lab is approaching this issue by integrating methods from classic memory research with more contemporary approaches that leverage naturalistic materials, such as videos of everyday activities.
Beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year, the lab will also be incorporating eye-tracking technology into these investigations. Chris would be happy to talk with current UNCG students about research opportunities in his lab and is excited to announce that he is currently accepting applications for graduate students.
