We are delighted to announce that Dr. Susan Keane, Professor and Director of Clinical Training, has received the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award (2019).
During her tenure at UNCG, Dr. Keane has served as Faculty Advisor on 41 doctoral dissertations and 54 Master’s theses. She has co-authored 24 peer-reviewed papers with students over the years and she has provided clinical supervision and training for approximately 100 students since 1983. As our Director of Clinical Training since 2005, she oversees the success of the Clinical Doctoral Program, with 65 students obtaining their PhD degrees during her time in this position. Related to this role, she has applied for and obtained over 2 million dollars in training grant funds, many of which have been devoted for student support stipends. Susan has also contributed to the community substantially; for example, she initiated Dream Camp, a summer camp that provides social skills training to children on the autism spectrum.
Ten former students who are now working in academia or private practice wrote stunning letters about the influence that Dr. Keane has had on their lives, citing her “lasting and profound impact,” “high academic and ethical standards,” “positive, constructive and dedicated” mentorship in “formal and informal settings,” with “unwavering support” and “learning that still applies to my day to day activities.” One alumna remarked that her training with Dr Keane “reinforced my belief that, as a woman, it was possible to have a strong career and a family.”
We congratulate Dr. Keane on her astounding mentoring record; this award is extremely well-deserved.
