A new book by UNCG Psychology professors Dr. Janet Boseovski and Dr. Ashleigh Gallagher is out on Kindle; the print edition is due out December 3, 2024. “Beyond Body Positive” is published by APA Lifetools, a part of the American Psychological Association aimed at producing books that speak directly to the general public.
The book is designed to help moms and other maternal figures teach their 3 to 10 year-old-daughters to value and respect their bodies from the start. It stresses the importance of the mother-daughter relationship and provides candid, constructive approaches to fostering healthy thinking and behavior. The information and suggested activities are grounded in scientific research and encourage examining and changing negative tendencies to hold ourselves to unreasonable standards (perfectionism) and to compare ourselves to others in unhealthy ways. It also talks about our personal strengths as people for building a healthy body image, such as having self-compassion and building self-esteem. Learn more about it here!
